Afternoon Tea in a castle hotel

Afternoon Tea is a delightfully indulgent tradition, thought to have been made fashionable in the 1800s by Anna 7th Duchess of Bedford, who complained of having a sinking feeling late each afternoon, as it was traditional at that time to only eat two meals a day. Her solution was to have a pot of tea and a light snack.

What better way to prevent an afternoon ‘sinking feeling’ than with afternoon tea, unless it is to add bubbles, too?  We are indebted to Anna, 7th Duchess of Bedford, and thank her wholeheartedly for elevating tea into a ritual that is time honoured.

At Lough Eske Castle we believe in honouring that ritual to the fullest, most indulgent extent possible, presenting three tiers of tempting tea-time treats to graze through, including savouries, sweet pastries and cakes, and scones, accompanied by cream and preserves, and a range of teas and herbal or fruit infusions. Be prepared to sit back and relax, for this is an experience not to be rushed.
Guests and visitors taking tea with us at the castle can choose to indulge in the Lobby Lounge, one of our gracious drawing rooms, or perhaps the Library.  Wherever you choose to take your Lough Eske Castle Afternoon Tea, be sure you allow time to savour the full experience.

Afternoon Tea is served from 12 noon until 3 pm Monday to Thursday and 12 noon to 4 pm Friday to Sunday.
